Message from the President

At Machiya-Inn Co., Ltd., our philosophy is “Stay as if you live here”—offering authentic Kyoto machiya stays that allow guests to truly experience the depth, tradition, and lifestyle of Japan’s ancient capital. When we first began restoring traditional Kyoto townhouses (machiya) as accommodations, few imagined they could become unique vacation rentals, and the process presented many challenges. Today, we are honored to welcome guests from across Japan and around the world, while helping to preserve Kyoto’s architectural heritage for future generations.

We believe our machiya provide more than just a place to sleep—they are cultural gateways. Guests often tell us, “It felt like coming back to my hometown,” confirming that our goal of offering a warm, home-like Kyoto townhouse experience has been achieved.

Our team consists of professionals from diverse industries who bring fresh ideas, flexibility, and a deep commitment to protecting Kyoto’s traditional townhouses. With every renovated property, we strive to combine history with modern comfort, ensuring that each Kyoto townhouse rental reflects both heritage and hospitality.

Looking forward, we aim to expand our portfolio of machiya accommodations, offering even more travelers the chance to discover Kyoto’s hidden alleys, tea houses, and temples from the comfort of a private machiya stay. We believe that our staff’s passion, creativity, and dedication are the foundation of our hospitality, and we will continue to ensure that Machiya-Inn remains the preferred choice for guests seeking an unforgettable Kyoto experience.
