A traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse over 120 years old is located just north of Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In this quiet neighborhood, six renovated townhouses stand side by side. During the Heian Period, this area was once the residence of the Emperor’s female court. Ichi-no-Tsubone is one of these houses, where guests can immerse themselves in history and enjoy a truly special Kyoto stay.

The owner of these six houses is Yamanaka Abura, a renowned oil shop founded over 200 years ago and widely known throughout Kyoto. Their original shop is located nearby, where visitors can explore and purchase their famous high-quality oils.

Interior based on "Tale of Genji".

The upper floor of Ichi-no-Tsubone was made based on a story of Genji-Monogatari (The tale of Genji) which was written by a female writer MurasakiShikibu in Heian Period. You can see the atmosphere of that time.
There are 2 Japanese room at there, so you can use here as your sleeping place. On those Japanese room's ceiling, you can see a big beam which remains from old time.

Over 120 years old history.

When you go enter the street of this location, you will see a long brown houses on your side. Even there are six houses, the roof is only one. This remains from old time, and this is very rare in mordern time.
These guest house has more than 120 years history. YOu can enjoy the history both of inside and outside of the house.

Quiet location, good for group stay.

Heiankyu-dairi-no-yado is standing in a quiet living area, but have easy access to many places by bus. 
And there are 6 houses at the same location, so it is very convenient if you come by a big groups, relatives gathering, or school trips. Of course you need to be quiet to going back and forth between each houses to live with neigbors, however, this is very good to reserve few numbers of houses together for your group. 
Please see on the roof when you arrive. There is "Shouki-san" standing on the roof for protect house. This is rare, but a important history of Kyoto.
